The Lost Coast of California

We went with Terra and Terra's friend, Jess to the Lost Coast of California. This is one of the prettiest stretches of beach I've ever seen. We hiked 8 miles up the coast the first day from Black Sands Beach. Then on the second day we had a 19 mile day up Rattlesnake Ridge to the top of King Peak and back down Buck Creek to the beach. We gained about 6500ft of elevation and it took 12 hours... The weirdest part is that we carried our packs that far only to move them 3 miles down the coast from where we spent the previous night. The last day was a simple 5 mile stroll back to the parking lot. Perfect.

 Giant Redwood.
Seagul skull someone had stuck on a stick. Pretty though

This little cove was perfect and would have been totally secluded during high tide. Too bad it was only half way to where we needed to be.

This is where we spent the first night. Really cool... Not really much point for us but it was really fun all the same. I felt a little like a kid heading over to it and crawling inside.
Starting the brutal uphill the second day. Not quite the mist trail!
The view from near the top of king peak.
Almost home

View from the campsite the second night. It was another perfect spot just big enough for the four of us to crash out on top of the bluff.
Completely exhausted from our 19 mile hike and very happy to be sitting because our knee's where killing us!
Sunset from camp the second night.

Bear tracks on the beach (next to a heart rock, which is funny because Terra was collecting them and we didn't see this one until we looked at the picture!) on the way out the third day. For sure something I had never seen before. I just wish we could have seen it in person.

Finally back at the car and ready for some Mexican food...
