Devils Post Pile

We left City of Rocks and drove straight down to the Mammoth Lakes, Ca area and the hot springs. We got there just after midnight got in the hot springs and crashed out. The next morning we woke up to a flat tire on the car and when I tried to change it the spare tire's valve stem had gone bad and drained it. So, we drove all the way out from the springs and to Mammoth on 10lbs of pressure and had it patched. We thought since we were there that we would walk to Devils Post Pile and check it out since we had never been there. Here are some "tourist" photos of the place.

This stuff is Basalt columns. Its really amazing and worth looking into. Its cooled magma that solidifies in a hexagonal pattern. It then cracks along the cracks making it long this sections like a pile of posts. I think thats what I read....? Anyway, Its rad.

Glacier polish on the top of the post pile.
