We got up early on the fourth and climbed the Third Pillar of Dana 5.10b. Its a long hike in with a couple thousand feet elevation gain. You leave the road and hike up to this huge plateau. The hike is absolutely beautiful. It follows the creek then splits off and heads right to the edge the plateau , where you head down a 3rd class ledge right to the base. The climbing is amazing on beautiful white alpine granite with a perfect topout right back onto the top of the plateau.
Heading up the talus slop to the plateau.
Looking across about half the plateau at Mt. Dana.
Could you ask for a better sunrise view?
The Third Pillar from the base.
Traversing to the second pitch anchor.
The view from the route looking back east toward Mono Lake and the East Side.
Krystina climbing behind the big flake on the third pitch.
Looking down the whole route to the talus from the summit.
Krystina climbing the 5th pitch cracks.
Making the reach on the 5th pitch.
The final ledges
So, This was a great route but even more than that it was a perfect day out. The climb went great and we both had a really good time.
